What is eBelia and who is it for?

eBelia is a programme from Malaysia’s Ministry Of Finance. Think of it as a gift from the government to help out Malaysians who are either:

• Between 18 and 20 years old in 2021 (born between 2001 and 2003), OR

• A full-time student at Diploma level, SKM4 or above, at a registered local Higher Educational Institution

In other words, you get RM150 to spend online or offline at your favorite merchants!

But, you should keep in mind that there are a few things you can’t use your RM150 on. These include:

1. peer-to-peer transfers;

2. cash-outs;

3. app-integrated payment of utility bills;

4. app-integrated payment of Government related fees/payments;

5. app-integrated payment of telco postpaid bills and prepaid service top-ups;

6. app-integrated games purchases;

7. payments to overseas merchants; and

8. top up of other e-wallets.

• I’ve successfully applied for eBelia with BigPay but I don’t see the RM150 in my main account balance. What’s going on?

To see your eBelia balance, you need to go to ‘Payments’ and then ‘eBelia’.

As you can see, you now have two separate balances: one for your main account on the homepage, and one for eBelia in the dedicated tab. Every time you make a transaction that is eligible under the eBelia initiative, you need to have the total amount in your main account balance first. Once you make an eligible payment, funds will be transferred from your eBelia balance to your main account balance.

• Why do I need to top up my BigPay first to make a transaction? Why can’t you disburse my RM150 eBelia credit directly into my account for me to use?

Because BigPay gives you the freedom of a card to spend at over 800,000 merchants, we’ll need to first check the transaction eligibility. Here’s how it works:

• Let’s say you successfully claim your RM150 eBelia credit with BigPay, but your BigPay balance is RM0

• To pay for a meal of RM20, you’ll need to top-up RM20 and pay for the meal with the RM20 balance first

• Once we’ve checked that it is an eligible transaction, we’ll transfer RM20 from your eBelia balance to your BigPay balance

• You now have RM20 you can spend anywhere you’d like - or even withdraw it!

• Can I keep my RM150 forever?

You’ll need to spend your RM150 eBelia balance by 11.59PM on July 31 2021! Any unused amount from your eBelia balance will be removed after that.

• What can I do with my airasia discounts?

First of all, airasia has become much more than an airline.
